Darrell A. Apffel is the Managing Partner and first generation attorney at Apffel Legal, PLLC, where he leverages over 35 years of legal expertise to handle complex civil and criminal cases. A Galveston native from a lineage of attorneys serving the community for over a century, Darrell has successfully recovered millions of dollars for clients and navigated hundreds of high-profile cases with a meticulous and client-focused approach.

A proud graduate of Texas A&M University (Class of ’86) with a degree in Construction Management, Darrell earned his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1989 and quickly launched his legal career as a solo practitioner. In 1997, he co-founded Bettison, Doyle, Apffel & Guarino, P.C., serving clients across Texas until 2016, when he partnered with his son, Blake, to establish Apffel Legal, PLLC—a firm that seamlessly blends legacy, expertise, and advocacy.

Proudly serving beyond the courtroom

Darrell’s distinguished career extends beyond the courtroom. He is a Past President and long-standing member of the Galveston County Bar Association, a former District 5c Grievance Committee Member, and a sustaining life member of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Darrel’s leadership as Galveston County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 from 2003 to 2014 was marked by fairness and integrity. As County Commissioner since 2016, Darrell continues his commitment to public service, advocating for improved infrastructure, public safety, and reduced property tax rates.

Throughout his career, Darrell has remained deeply rooted in his community, volunteering for local booster clubs, coaching youth sports, and actively supporting programs that enhance quality of life across Galveston County including serving as a member of the board of directors for the Family Service Center.

Together, Darrell and his wife Pam have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
